Star Trek, Battlefield Earth, and Dune Cookies and Recipes

“A Tribble Ate My Cookie” by Victoria Dixon

Inspired by the universes of Star Trek, Battlefield Earth, and Dune, this collection of recipes brings a touch of the fantastical to your kitchen. Despite Star Trek’s apparent lack of cookies, a creative twist on recipes from a never-published cookbook (that I co-wrote for Paramount and Pocketbooks entitled “A Tribble Ate My Lunch”) offers a unique take on this treasured universe. Battlefield Earth and Dune provided more direct inspiration with their elements of Kerbango and Melange, leading to themed Battlefield Earth confections and Dune cookies.

  • ¾ cup softened butter
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 ⅔ cups all-purpose flour
  • ⅓ cup unsweetened cocoa

Frosting Ingredients:

  • 1 tsp Andorian Brandy
  • 4 tsp half and half

  • 1 tbsp unsweetened cocoa

Andorian Brandy Preparation:

  • Infuse a cinnamon stick in a bottle of apple brandy for a week.

  1. For the cookies, combine butter and sugar and beat until creamy, scraping the sides of the bowl. Add egg and vanilla extract and mix well before adding the flour and cocoa.
  2. Chill dough for at least two hours before cutting into shapes, with or without cookie cutters. If you want crescents but don’t have a cutter, roll the dough into three-inch logs and pinch the ends. If you do use cutters, you may have extra frosting.
  3. Bake at 375°F for seven minutes. Cool before frosting.
  4. For the frosting, combine ingredients and beat, scraping the bowl often.
  5. Apply the frosting smoothly to the cookies and sprinkle with powdered sugar, if desired.

Three Klingon friends of Dax’s combine forces with Jadzia for the sake of revenge. The first time Dax served this to Kurzon’s friends, the Klingons and the Federation were still enemies.

Battlefield Earth Inspired Recipe

For those of you who serve your Star Trek with a slice of Battlefield Earth and Dune, I added the following:

Kerbango Confection

Kerbango Confection

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup softened butter
  • 2/3rd cup powdered sugar
  • ½ tsp walnut extract
  • 1 egg
  • 1 ½ cups flour
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 2 tbsp Java flavored moonshine
  • 3 oz. white chocolate, chopped
  • 3 ½ oz. dark chocolate chips

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F, ensuring both top and bottom heat are activated. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, mix the butter, powdered sugar, and walnut extract. Add the egg to the mixture and beat until creamy.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix the flour, cinnamon, and baking powder before stirring it into the batter.
  4. Incorporate the milk and moonshine into the batter, followed by the finely chopped white chocolate. Ensure the white chocolate is well mixed and evenly distributed to avoid uneven textures and flavors.
  5. Use a spoon to scoop small heaps of the dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them well apart to allow for spreading.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 10-15 minutes, or until the cookies are lightly browned.
  7. Remove from the oven and allow to cool.

This recipe is a variation on an O’Donnell’s Moonshine recipe, so I am indebted to them.
